POWERFUL FIGHTER
NEW BRITISH PLANE GREAT SPEED ATTAINED (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 12. A new British fighter plane—ths Tempest—is now operating, reports ths Press Association’s aviation correspondent. The Tempest is described as the most powerful fighter yet built. The details of its performance are secret but it is said to have a speed much greater than that of the fastest German fighter. The German air journal Flugsporsays the plane has a 2000-horsepowef air-cooled Hawker-Siddeley radial engine. The plane was designed by Sydney Camm, the desginer of the Hfftvker Hurricane and the Typhoon.
