OFFENSIVE AGAINST JAPAN
LONDON, Apl. 17. “The transfer of South-east Asia Command headquarters to Ceylon marks a further stage in the organisation of the full-scale offensive against Japan,” said Admiral Sir Geoffrey Layton, commander-in-chief of Ceylon, at a press conference. He added that this fact should be an inspiration and stimulus to all, but we must guard against impatience and over-optimism. The British United Press Colombo correspondent says there are signs that in the past two years one of the most formidable land, sea, and air striking forces in the world has been built up within Ceylon, and the arrival of Lord Louis Mountbatten has therefore not surprised the local public.
