HYDATIDS IN RABBITS
Sir, —I should like, with your permission, to correct a misapprehension that might be created through a letter by “ Grader ” under the heading “ Food for Britain.” It is true that rabbits, like many other animals, are quite commonly affected with the cystic or water-bladder stage of certain tapeworms, but these cysts are not of the same species‘as the hydatids that are very common ill sheep, cattle, and pigs, and not very uncommon in human beings. Rabbits are not’ susceptible to true hydatids, and this fact lias been proved by field laboratory investigation, and has been published over and over again in the educational information widely circulated by the Hydatid Research Department of the ‘Medical School and by the Government Departments of Health. Agriculture, and Education. Moreover, cooking rabbits destroys all risk of any sort of parasitic infection, and therefore prejudice against this excellent food is quite unwarranted. —I am, etc.. L. E. Barnett, Chairman of Hydatid Committee, Medical School. Hampden, April 16.
