(Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Apl. 4. The fastest mile this morning, lmin 42 2-ssec, was done by Eulogia, who is very well. Royal Writ, Sascha, and Big Top were on terms in lmin 43sec, the last half being run in 50sec. Foxchase and Hippodrome took lmin 46 2-ssec, but finished up well in 51sec. Royal Review did the best seven furlongs, lmin 28 l-ssec, the last half in Slsec. Stavros and Leander beat Sunny Sal in lmin 29sec, but they came home in 50 l-ssec, while Te Awe Awe finished up in 50 3-ssec, with lmin 29 2-sscc for the full journey. All Night and Authentic, after a slow start from the six-furlong post, dashed over the last half in 50sec. Eulogist ran the last four of five furlongs in 49 4-ssec, a very good effort, in spite of a mishap to his gear. Perjure, Dancing Fawn, and Record Voyage were in that order over half a mile in 48 4-ssec, a smart sprint. Periwig took 49sec, and Qui Tam 50sec (with a big weight), while Palora finished well in 49 ,2-ssee.

On the plough Arustra and Honest Sal were mates for a mile in lmin 46sec. Irish Treasure and Waltzing Matilda did the best seven furlongs, lmin 31 3-ssec. Little Secret, Renarde, and Night Pal were in that order in lmin 33sec, while Lord Advocate and Justitia were not doing their best in lmin 33 4-ssec. Good Cast covered six furlongs in lmin 16 4-ssec, which Full Chase equalled. Retriever and Rex Maitland took lmin 17 l-ssec. Even Calm just beat Foxchase in lmin 17 l-ssec, while Salary and Grand Forest did lmin 17 3-ssec.

Gold Nugget jumped six hurdles at a sound pace, giving a better display than is usual with him in schooling. Gulf Stream was among those let off with light tasks. He is suffering from muscle soreness, and his trainer says he will not be started in the Great Easter unless the course is softened by rain.
