NOTES FROM INVERCARGILL

(Special) INVERCARGILL, Apl. 4. The best sprint at Invercargill this morning was recorded by Latest Song, who ran two furlongs in 26sec and completed five'in lmin Gsec. She was doing it well'all the way and Is an improving mare.

The best six was put up by Inscrutable and Carolyn, who went lmin 20 l-ssec, the last four in 52 4-ssec. They finished on terms," with Inscrutable appearing to be doing it the better on the inner.

Secret Course was held back to Parallel ■St the end of six furlongs in lmin 21 2-ssec, the last four in 55 l-ssec. Green Note and Yodelling Song did a similar task in lmin 22 2-ssec, the last four in 56sec. Both finished ‘ under a steady hold. Great Coon and Fail- Trial were paired over seven furlongs in lmin 36 2-ssec, the last four in 54 3-ssec. Both horses were doing their work comfortably throughout and are in- first class order.

Fleet Street and Bow Street were given a couple of sprints together over three furlongs. They kept together in the first sprint to record 40 2-ssec. but the second time Fleet Street cleared out - from his mate to run the first furlong in 12 l-ssec and three in 39 l-ssec, finishing under a good hold. Elvena, with a feather-weight up, jumped away smartly from the mile post and recorded lmin 48 4-ssec. She ran Ihe first four furlongs in 52 2-ssec and the last four in 56 2-ssec. T. J. Boyle is nursing an injured shoulder, the result of a fall from AngloFrench in a schooling, bout over the Riverton fences on Saturday, and he will not be able to ride the Sir Simper gelding in the Great Western Steeplechase. AngloFrench took no harm from the fall, and this morning he worked freely in company with Noko over a mile in lmin 55 2-ssec. , Spanish Main received a severe burn to his near hind heel when he was caught up in a rope yesterday. He was very sore this morning, but it is expected that ,he will be right.again by Saturday.
