CHRISTMAS GIFTS
NEW ZEALAND MEAT AND BUTTER ENGLISH MOTHER’S GRATITUDE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Apl. 4. That the Christmas gifts of New Zealand meat and butter distributed in Britain among thq families of men in the mercantile marine were appreciated is shown by a letter received by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, The letter was addressed to the “ People of New Zealand ” and was written by Mrs May Heeney, of Liverpool, whose husband has been “ missing at sea ’’ since early last year.’ Mrs Heeney said that the gifts from the New Zealand Meat Board and the New Zealand Dairy Board “ made ” the Christmas dinner for her and her children. Lamb was a luxury that others did not enjoy, and they were able to have plenty of butter on their bread.
“ I hope this letter will give you some idea of our gratitude for your gifts," she concluded. “It is so nice to know that the merchant navy is not forgotten, and from the bottom of my heart I say, ‘ Thank you. New Zealand.’ ”
