SURF LIFE SAVING
OTAGO TITLES DECIDED CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ST. CLAIR The Otago Surf Life Saving Championships were held on the St. Clair beach yesterday, teams from the St. Clair, St. Kilda, and Kaka Point Clubs taking part. The competitions attracted a crowd of several thousand spectators, and a good strong surf provided a fair test for the competitors. The proceedings in the afternoon were opened with a spectacular march past. The honours of the day were divided . between St. Clair and St. Kilda. The St. Clair women’s representatives, who were successful at the National Championships last month, were the winners of the Four-man Alarm and the Sixman Rescue and Resuscitation Championships, and a junior team from the same club won the Four-man Alarm in its division. One of the most outstanding performances of the day was that of the St. Kilda team, which won the Junior Six-man Rescue and Resuscitation Championship, giving a good account of itself in both events. St. Kilda won the Senior Four-man Alarm and the Six-man Championship, there being no opposition in the latter event. The Junior Surf Race Championship was won in fine style bv R. Reay (St. Kilda). The competitions were controlled by members of the Otago Surf Life Saving Association, with the president (Mr H. H Henderson), as referee. Messrs Henderson. J. Robinson and J. G. Reid were the judges, Messrs S. Brown. J. R. Rodgerson, D. C. Bannatyne and B. F. Simon-, sen timekeepers, Mr J. Foster marshal, and Mr H. R. de Crewe announcer. The secretary was Mr G. Withnell. The following were the results:— Women's Four-man Alarm.—St. Clair A (J. Dunn, M. Stewart, L. Phelan, C. Knowles), 75.34 points, 1; St. Clair C. 68.96 points, 2; St. Clair B, 68.51 points, 3. Junior Four-man Alarm.—St. Clair A (V. Simonsen. Ji Walsh, N. Brownie, M. McGregor), 66.21 points, 1; St. Kilda B, 64.38 points, 2; St. Kilda A, 56.98 points, 3. Senior Four-man Alarm.—St. Kilda H (J. Purdie. F. Burton, G. Hill, K. Wilson), 67.27 points, 1; St. Kilda A, 56.06 points, 2. St. Clair was disqualified. Women's Six-man Rescue and Resuscitation Championship—St. Clair A (J. Dunn M. Stewart, W. Dunn, C. Knowles, 'V Payne,'L. Phelan) 1. The St. Clair B and Kaka Point teams did not complete the competition. . ... Junior Six-man Rescue and Resuscitation Championship.— St. Kilda A (R. Reay, R. A. Mcßride, A. Jones, E. Fitzgerald, T.
