OTAGO BOROUGHS

ASSOCIATION SUGGESTED (Special) OAMARU, Feb. 10. At the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council to-night the Mayor (Mr J. C. Kirkness), who has been appointed to represent the Otago boroughs on the South Island Local Bodies’ Executive, said that he feit (hat the appointment should be considered as a temporary one until after the Mav elections. Mr Kirkness congratulated the town clerk of Milton on taking the initiative in regard to making an appointment at the time borough representatives were in Dunedin attending the centennial memorial meeting. The boroughs were not fully represented on that occasion, Mr Kirkness said, and he felt that the time had arrived for the formation of an Otago boroughs association. He suggested that one of the central councils, say, St. Kilda, should be asked to convene a meeting of borough representatives as soon as possible after the elections. A permanent appointment, Mr Kirkness said, could then be made, and other matters of common interest discussed.
