The following is a statement of the assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at the close of business on Monday, January 31 (the figure# for the previous return being given in parentheses):— _ ■ Liabilities. —General Reserve Fund. £1,500,000 (£1,500,000); bank notes, £36,575,909 (£36,396,351); demand liabilities—State £14,773,708 (£13,539.336), banks £37,934,296 (£38.114,909), other £317,615 (£613,150); liabilities in currencies other than New Zealand currency £35,351 (£398,150); other liabilities £2,011,652 (£2,019,212); total, £93,148,534 (£92,581,901). Assets.—Reserves gold £2,801,877 (£2,801,877); sterling exchange £35,830,019 (£35,349,256); subsidiary coin £69,363 (£71,896); advances to the State or State undertakings Marketing Department, £683.162 (£684,493); for other purposes £40,635,000 (£40,635,000); investments £10,323,591 (£10,323.591); other assets £2,805,519 (£2,715,785);—t0tal £93,148,534 (£92,581,901). J Proportion of reserves to notes and other demand liabilities 43.076 per cent. (42.579 per cent.).
