ALBANIAN GUERRILLAS

LED BY MOSLEM ABBOT NAZI TROOPS HARASSED LONDON, Feb. 6. Stout, bearded Abbot Baba Faya has left his monastery to lead guerrillas in Albania, says a Cairo message. Abbot Faya is a Moslem, but the 10,000 mountaineers under his command arc of all creeds. They now control nearly all Southern Albania. The Nazis have been forced to detach mountain troops, tanks, and planes for several campaigns against them. When the Italians in Albania surrendered last October Abbot Faya tried to seize the port of Durazzo. He took his men within a few miles of Durazzo, but the Germans showered the woods, where they were concentrated, with fire bombs. The treachery of an Italian commander defeated Abbot Faya’s attempt to seize Porlhvlona. The Italian invited the guerrillas to enter the town, and then touched off mines in the road over which they had to pass.
