Messrs J. W. Munro, P. G. Connolly, and W. M. Denham, M.P.’s, were passengers by the express yesterday morning on their way to Wellington. The Mayor of Hamilton, Mr H. D. Caro, has intimated his intention of again contesting the mayoralty in May. Mr Caro joined the Hamilton Borough Council in 1931 and was elected Mayor in 1938. The members of the Industrial Manpower Committee —Messrs M. W. Grantham (chairman), H. H. Gillard, and A. Mcßae —accompanied by the secretary (Mr J. C. Bates), will leave Dunedin to-morrow morning to hold sittings at Cromwell and Alexandra. They will return on Friday. Passengers who left for the north by air yesterday were Mr A. Harris, Mr W. N. Satterthwaite, Mr 11. Barron, Miss V. Watson, Mrs H. J. Crawford, Flying Officer H. J. Crawford, and Miss P. Gardiner for Wellington, Miss P. Bain, Mrs H. Colgrave, and Mr A. Brown for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Mr Stratmore, Mr W. R. Snadden, Mr A. W. Israel, Mr Walker, Corporal Graeter, and Mr E, A. Mills from Wellington, Colonel T. A. Masters, Mr Scott, Miss Gunn, and Mrs Richardson from Auckland.

A notable Australian, Sir Francis Beaurepaire, a former Lord Mayor of Melbourne, arrived in Auckland on Saturday on a slioi-t visit to New Zealand. Sir Francis, who was born and educated in Melbourne, which in October, 1940, elected him to the highest civic office, gained a world-wide reputation as a swimmer. He won eight official world records for various distances, and represented Australia at the Olympic Games in 1908, 1920, and 1924. For many years he has been active in the promotion of swimming and life-saving campaigns, and is the holder of the gold medal of the Royal Humane Society of New South Wales.
