Mr W A. G. Penlington, principal of the Hastings High School, at the annual prize giving, said he was reminded of a new “ howler ” which states that the first attempt at flying was made by a Greek named Icarus, but he fell into the sea because his wings were stuck on only with wax. That is quite true, but in this instance the lad spelt it as “ waacs,” added Mr Penlington.
