Mrs I. S. Cantrell Is visiting her mother, Mrs T. S. Upfill, of Auckland. Lieutenant and Mrs J. D. Hudson, of Auckland, are guests of Mrs Richard Hudson. Mrs Herbert Caselberg, of Wellington, is visiting her sister, Mrs N. C. Speight, at Brighton. Mrs R. F. Batchelor has returned to Lawrence after spending a few weeks' holiday in the Lakes district. Miss Jessie Wilkie, of the British Y.W.C.A.. who has been serving in the Middle East, has arrived in New Zealand and is visiting her sister, Mrs J. Hargest, of Rakauhauka. Miss L. M. Corsbie has been appointed to succeed Miss M. J. Hunter as matron of the Wanganui Hospital. Miss. Corsbie, who is at present matron of the Thames Hospital, trained in the Christchurch Public Hospital, registering in June, 1931. In 1937 she gained her post-graduate diplomas in nursing and hospital administration.
Matron Gladys L. Thwaites, who was awarded the Royal Red Cross in the New Year Honours list comes from Otara. She trained at the Southland Hospital and, after finishing her training, spent some time in Samoa. She returned to New Zealand and later went to England for five years. On again returning to New Zealand she was a sister at the New Plymouth Hospital. She left New Plymouth to join the Army Nursing Service in 1940. Mrs T. Golden, of Fortrose, is an aunt.
