PIP FRUIT INDUSTRY
NEED FOR ECONOMIC STABILITY GUARANTEED PRICE DESIRED (P.A.) NELSON, Jan. 6. That guaranteed prices must form the basis of any agreement between the pip fruit industry and the Government, and that no scheme which departed from that principle could be acceptable to the industry, was the decision of the growers in the central area of the Nelson district at a meeting held at Tasman to discuss the new marketing scheme. . The growers requested the chairman of the district meetings and the directors of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation to form a deputation to the Government to explain the growers’ objections to the new scheme and endeavour to arrive at an amicable settlement of the requirements of the industry for economic stability. No nominations were made of growers’ representatives on the proposed new advisory committee and fruit marketing council.
