PALFREY AT TRENTHAM

(Special) WELLINGTON, Jan. 6. Palfrey has arrived at Trentham to 1 prepare for the Wellington summer meeting, at which his mission will be the Wellington Cup, of two miles, run on the, opening day of the meeting, on Saturday week. At his last start Palfrey won the Dunedin Cup, of one mile and a-half, with 7.9, prior to which he was runner-up in the Metropolitan Handicap at Riccarton.over a similar distance, and he was the unlucky runner in the New Zealand Cup, in which he was placed fourth. He will be ridden by his usual pilot, A. Messervy, in the Wellington Cup. The Joker is an acceptor for the Jockey Club Handicap at Dunedin on Saturday, but he may be prevented from starting owing to the Stud Book certificate covering his transfer from New Zealand to Australia not having been returned when the horse was shipped back to New Zealand. The Rules of Racing prevent a horse from running in the Dominion until this certificate is in the hands of the New Zealand Racing Conference, or until the keeper of the Stud Book in Sydney satisfies the conference that it has been despatched. The Joker has an engagement in the Wellington Cup, and the race at Dunedin on Saturday was to be the deciding factor whether the Trentham trip would be undertaken or not.
