TIME LIMIT FOR RACES

There was some discussion among racing patrons following the running cf the Clifford Plate at Ellerslie on Monday regarding the eligibility of Neenah, who finished, nearly a minute after the other two runners, to third stake money. Neenah (statfes the New Zealand Herald) was well within the very liberal time limit imposed by the Rules of Racing, which say that no race shall exceed 20 minutes in duration. After the expiration of that time from the start the judge must leave his box, and no horse which subsequently passes the winning post may be placed. Any horse which has had an interrupted passage in a race through falling may be remounted by any person other than its jockey, and may claim any prize appropriate to his position in the event.
