LOSS OF DESTROYERS
WASHINGTON, Jan. 5. The destroyer which exploded and sank off Sandy Hook was the 17W-ton Turner, commissioned in April, 1943. The commanding officer, Commander Henry Tygant, is listed as missing. The destroyer which was torpedoed in the North Atlantic on December 24 was the 1090-ton Leary.
