SOLDIER HARVESTERS

OTAGO CAMPS ARRANGED Arrangements have been completed by the military authorities for the establishment of harvesting camps in the Ctago and Southland districts. The first camp to be established in the area covered by the Otago Primary Production Council will be at Clydevale, where men will be available for work about the end of the month. Other camps will be established iri the Clutha, Clinton, Lawrence, Middlemarch, Milton, Palmerston, Taieri, and Ranfurly districts. Arrangements have also been made by the Primary Production Councils in North Otago, South Otago, Eastern Southland, and Western Southland for camps to be provided in their areas. . The principal crops which will be harvested by the soldiers will be oats, wheat, and linen flax, but the services of the men will be available for- other classes of urgent farm , work if insufficient harvesting work is available. Tha camps will, in the majority of cases, be located in district halls or other suitable buildings, and the arrangements for accommodation will generally be the same as those adopted last year. * * ' The reduced number of men permanently in camp will be supplemented by those who are required to do one month’s training each year, and • have been directed to go into camp principally for harvesting work. The. result will be that the personnel in the harvesting camps will change from month to month, but it is no't anticir pated that this will have any dis-.-advantageous effect on the operation" of the scheme.
