STATUTORY PRICE CONTROL

ACCEPTED BY INDIAN GOVERNMENT NEW DELHI, Nov. 16. The Government has accepted the ideal of statutory price control throughout India, said Mr R. H. Hutchings, secretary of the Food Department, during an Assembly debate on food and the famine. He said: “No stroke of genius will solve the food problem. It is a very big administrative task working out the details. The public realises that food henceforth must not be a sport for political ambition and financial ingenuity. Price control, which must be accepted in principle in India, must also be supported by control of other commodities and the supply of consumer goods.”
