CLUB ROOMS SUGGESTED

AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION The need for clubrooms for members was stressed by Mr D. H. Thomson at the monthly meeting of the Automobile Association (North Otago) on Monday night. Mr Thomson said that the association was the only one in the country without rooms. He referred to certain premises which might be leased. Mr I. Dalmer was m the chair.

Mr H. A. Murison said that the move was a progressive one.

Mr R. G. Millen emphasised that the rooms would be a great advantage to country members.

On the motion of Mr Murison, it was decided that the president, secretary, treasurer (Mr J. W. Petrie), and Mr J. Gerrie be appointed a committee to investigate the matter and go fully into the question of costs. It was also decided to communicate with the owners of the premises to which Mr Thomson referred.

There were present at the meeting Messrs D. H. Thomson, H. A. Murison, R. G. Millen, J. Gerrie, D. L. Patterson, E. W. McKelvey, J. W. Petrie, W. Gillies. J. M. Wilson, and the secretary (Mr H. Hay). It was unanimously decided to support the South Canterbury Association’s resolution for a careful scrutiny of the expenditure of the Highways Board’s funds. A copy of a letter from Sparrow Industrial Pictures, Ltd., was forwarded by the South Island Motor Union regarding the production of films for school use in the teaching of road safety.—Mr Thomson stated that the matter had been deferred by the union, pending advice from the associations, and in the meantime the matter was being taken up with the Education Department.—lt was agreed t'o discuss the matter further at the next meeting.

The secretary reported tiiat the Otago patrolman had done good work at the recent Oamaru race meeting, having given service to a good number of motorists. At present he was ill, and it was hot known when he would be ready to carry out work in the North Otago district. One new member was elected.
