PLATFORM WORKING WELL

(Special) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 16. The semi-final trials by the horses with engagements at the local meeting on Saturday took place tills morning under excellent conditions. All the galloping took place on the course proper about 18 feet out from the rails.

Platform and Red Prize ran a mile in lmin 47sec, the first half in 51 3-ssec, and the last half in 55 2-ssec. This was the fastest mile of the morning, and Platform bowled into his work more freely than he has done for some time. He will be ridden in the Southland Cup by K. Wilson.

Filibeg and Elvena ran the last five of seven furlongs in lmin 6 2-ssec, both doing their work well. True Form ran six furlongs in lmin 18 3-ssec, the last four in 52 3-ssec. The Blatherskite horse is a good track worker, but has not been able to repeat it in a race. Green Note and Fleet Street got through useful tasks. It was stated this morning that Fleet Street was an unlikely starter on Saturday. Sailor’s Pal was given strong work over seven furlongs, and Southern Sail and Southern Wave were let off with threequarter pace over a round, coming home the last four in 54 2-ssec. Southern Sail showed no signs of soreness and will be a starter on Saturday. After the breakfast interval Sascha and Macedoine ran a mile in lmin 52sec. There was little pace on over the first half, but they came home the final four in 53sec, with Macedoine doing it comfortably all the way. Macedoine will contest the Tradesmen's Handicap on Saturday and not the Cup, which will be the mission of Sascha, who will be ridden by N. Crombie. Macedoine will have the stable apprentice, D. Dawson, up in the Tradesmen’s Handicap, and will have a full apprentice allowance. Invulnerable moved away from the mile and a-quarter post at a good strong canter, and, increasing the pace near the half, came home the last three in company with Gundagai in 38sec. Invulnerable hit out attractively. Aurora Australis and Gnohill ran two furlongs in 26 2-ssec and completed six in lmin 19sec. Lindy Lou beat Carpos over five furlongs in lmin 5 2-ssec. the first furlong in 13sec, and Inscrutable easily accounted for Foccata and Parallel over a similar distance in lmin 5 2-ssec, the first furlong in 13sec.

Royal Lancer moved away slowly from the mile and a-quarter post and there was no pace on until he was joined by Marquee at the six, which they left behind in lmin 18 3-ssec, the last four in 52sec. Royal Lancer finished full of running, but Marquee had to be Tiard ridden to keep at Royal Lancer’s quarters in the run home.

Lindy Lou and Royal Chorus collided on the track and the former showed signs of having broken some ribs. The accident occurred when Lindy Lou was turning back after completing her gallop. The force of the impact sent both horses to the ground. Royal Chorus appeared to escape any serious hurt, and the jockeys were not injured. Lindy Lou is a three-year-old filly by Nigger Minstrel from Smiling Eyes, and was engaged in the Novice Race on Saturday. Her defection will leave R. E. McLellan without a representative in the race.
