ASSEMBLY IN DUNEDIN The annual General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand will open in First Church on November 3 and the sessions will continue for at least a week. The presiding moderator will be the Right Rev. D. C. Herron, of Knox Church, who succeeds the Right Rev. J. G. Laughton in office. There will be present at the assembly about 300 delegates in all. representing practically every parish in the Dominion. The assembly is to be asked to approve the raising of a thanksgiving and memorial fund of £50,000, to be used for post-war reconstruction and reimbursement on the overseas mission fields of the church and for extension and development in new areas in the Dominion. The appointment has to be made of a principal of the Theological College in succession to Dr John Dickie, and for this post the Rev. J. J. Bates, of Rangiora, has been nomiliaSimultaneously with the assembly, the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union will hold its annual conference, which will be attended by over 100 delegates.
