HIGH PRICES FOR FAT CATTLE (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 20. The small entry of fat cattle at the Addington market to-day raised values to about the. highest level of the season. Spring lambs were also firmer, and, with the setting in of the spring weather, there was a keen inquiry for store cattle and sheep. Store Sheep.—There was a larger yarding, totalling 2416. Hoggets of good quality sold exceptionally well, the top price being 41s 6d for a line of 183 ewe hoggets. Other lines made from 32s 6d to 38s, and medium sheep brought from 28s 6d to 335. A line of over 300 wether hoggets sold from 29s to 335, the hignest price of the season. A pen of exceptionally good ewes and lambs sold from 21s to 245, all counted. Medium lines made from 13s 7d to 15s Id. Many inferior sheep failed to find buyers. Fat Sheep—The entry numbered about 4000, compared with 5000 last week, and contained several pens of shorn sheep. The market was again very sound for quality, but there was a dragging ten-dency-in the cases of light and unfinished sheep. On the whole there was little change on recent values. Owing to the restricted supply of woolly wethers, best ewes Were eagerly sought and again high figures ruled for both classes. The highest price for ewes .was 58s 7d, and for wethers 58s Id- Shorn ewes made up to 47s 7d, and wethers to 48s Id. Fat Cattle.—There was a sharp rise in values and these recovered last weeks drop of about 30s a head and improved by a further 10s to 15s a head on the high market of two weeks ago.
