WORKS INACTIVE

DAMAGE TO SCHWEINFURT PLANT LONDON, Oct. 17. A study of photographs taken after the raid on the Schweinfurt ball and roller bearing plant revealed even more extensive damage than was first estimated, said Brigadier-general Anderson, commanding the Eighth United States Air Force. The entire works are now inactive. The Germans may eventually restore them to 25 per cent, productive capacity. A message from Berne reports that, as the result of the destruction of the works, the Germans have placed large orders with the big Schmidtrost ball bearing firm at Zurich.
