ENEMY AIR RAIDERS
ATTACK ON ENGLISH COAST HEAVIEST FOR MANY MONTHS (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 16. German raiders were active over a wide area of the south coast for over an hour last night. The Press Association says it was the heaviest night raid for many months. Five enemy planes were destroyed. Single planes sharply attacked south coast towns, dropping high-explosive bombs. Several persons are believed to have been trapped when bombs hit houses in a working-class district, of one town. Bombs dropped on another town hit a church and an air-raid shelter. The casualties are believed to be very light. The raiders faced a particularly intense ground barrage.
