RAIDERS OVER BRITAIN
HEAVIEST ATTACK FOR MONTHS LONDON, Aug. 12. Casualties are believed to be heavy as a result of a sharp attack last night by German raiders on a coastal town in the south-west of England. Highexplosive and oil bombs were dropped, most of which fell in residential districts. Some raiders flew- low over the town. A coastal town in the south of, England was similarly attacked. Forty German bombers took part in the two raids, the largest number sent over Britain for some months. One was shot down. Twelve people were killed in the south-west town, and it is believed eight were killed in the other.
The German News Agency stated that the towns raided were Plymouth and Bournemouth, and added that heavy bombers dropped a large number of high explosives and incendiary bombs on military targets in both towns.
Five members of the National Fire Service were among the victims when at least 12 persons were killed during a moonlight raid pn a south-west coast town early yesterday. Eleven persons were also killed when another southwest town was attacked.
