TRANSFERRED TO GERMANY

WAR PRISONERS IN ITALY LONDON, Aug. 12. Information reaching the International War Prisoners’ Agency indicates that British war prisoners in Italy are being transferred to Germany, says the Geneva correspondent of the Daily Express. Two thousand five hundred of them recently arrived at Stalag IV. Other transfers are being arranged. Stalag IV has three camps, all of which are over 100 miles from Berlin. The political correspondent of the Daily Express says the British Government has asked the Swiss protecting Power to investigate immediately. The Cabinet, if the report is confirmed, will consider taking further action. Italy was previously warned against sending British war prisoners to Germany. A number of British war prisoners in Italy for a long time have been under the control of the German Army, and these may be the men reported to have been transferred to Stalag IV.
