FLYING A HURRICANE
PILOT FROM CANTERBURY (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Auk. 12Warrant Officer Leslie Woodward, of Christchurch, a former Canterbury sprint and hurdles champion, is now experiencing another kind of speed. He is Hying a four-cannon Hurricane, and recently hit two German 600-ton Diesel engine supply ships off Holland. “It was a beautiful moonlight morning, he said, “when at 3.30 a.m. I saw five ships off Schouwen. They were in line astern. I attacked, and one was observed to be hit. Ten minutes later, off Waicheran, I sighted seven ships and attacked one, but having to break away sharply I did not observe the results. Woodward is now with a Hurricane tank-busting squadron, in which lie is the only New Zealander.
