THE WAR DAMAGES ACCOUNT

Sir,—Mr Nash has stated that the War Damages Account will amount to £4,500,000 at the end of this year. This amount has been contributed, compulsorily by property-holders throughout the country, including those unfortunates in country districts on whose properties no bombs could be expected to fall. Mr Nash also stated that the fund was under the complete control of Parliament, and none of thq money could be expended on anything but war damage without its sanction. In view of the fact that damage now seems remote, I wonder if any of the money will be refunded if, unfortunately, the present Government is returned to power after the election. Perhaps a refund would be too much to expect from our present legislators.—l am, etc.. Square Deal.
