KURILE ISLANDS
RAID BY AMERICAN BOMBERS JAPANESE ANNOUNCEMENT (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 12. The Tokio radio . announced that American Liberators based -on the Aleutians to-day attempted to raid the northern section of the Kurile Islands, but were repulsed by anti-aircraft fire. The radio added that the raid must be regarded as a result of the positive measures taken by the United States to attack the mainland of Japan from
the north. The appearance of enemy planes from the north must be expected in the future. The Kuriles are a chain of small islands running north from Japan to tha Kamchatka Peninsula, Siberia.
