MISS RUNCIMAN’S RETIREMENT
The annual meeting of the Dunedin Tailoresses and Other Female Clothing Trade Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers-was held in the R.S-A. rooms on ■‘Tuesday. ‘Mr (president) Was' in the chair. At the close of the meeting a social hour was held, when an opportunity was taken to say farewell 'to Miss 'Runclman, who was retiring from the office of secretary after 35 years’ service to the union. The president presented Miss Runclman with a cheque from the members of the union, and also a cheque from the Auckland Union. Mr Roberts, secretary of the New Zealand Federated QJothing Trades Association. Christchurch, attended to do-honour to .Miss . Runclman. and made presentations of cheques from the council of the federation and the Canterbury unions.. .. » ■ -•----- - •The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, through, Mr Paul, paid a ‘tribute to.. Miss-.-JRunel*; rhkn's record secretaryship, which had been of outstanding merit for length-and, sincerity of service. Miss Runclman .-had not only been a pioneer in the sphere of trades unionism, but she had rendered signal service to her fellow citizens sin. many representative capacities. Bouquets were presented to Miss Runclman and Miss Lowe, who was also retiring from office. Miss Runciman suitably replied, thanking the members and other unions for their good wishes and generous gifts. Miss A. M. Grierson was appointed secretary. She is well known in business circles in Dunedin. Solos were rendered by Misses Walker, Guy and Law, and the accompanist was Miss Hunter. ■- Supper was served.- ",
