BALCLUTHA
Magistrate’s Court.—At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., the following were charged with being found with liquor at a dance hall or in its vicinity:—Robert Steel, fined £2, with costs (12s); George Houliston, farmer, fined £2. with costs (12s): Rangi Maaki, Benliar, fined £2, with costs (12s); Peter Charles Jardine, fined £2, with costs (12s); S. Lloyd, fined £2, with costs (12s); J. G. Leckie, fined £3, with costs (12s); John Bruce, fined £2, with costs (12s). —Thomas Johnston Bell was charged with failing to notify the vendor that 18 bottles of ale purchased from him were intended for the no-licence district of Clutha. The magistrate, after hearing evidence, dismissed the charge.—H. F. Larsen, of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Dunedin, prosecuted in the following alleged breaches of fixed prices:—G. W. Holden, storekeeper, Waiwera, selling to Inspector T. McGregor one pair of half-hose at 3s 6d when the fixed price was 3s; also one pair at 2s 6d instead of Is 9d, and a pair of half-hose at 3s 8d (fixed price 3s 3d); H. S. Latta and Co., Ltd., Romahapa. pair of bovs' golf hose at 4s 3d (fixed price 3s 9d), one light-weight shirt at 12s 9d (fixed price 11s 6d), a pair of halfhose at 3s 9d (fixed price 3s), and a shirt at 13s 3d (fixed price 11s 6d). The cases were heard together, and Mr Grigor (instructed by Mr F. B. Adams, Dunedin) appeared for thfe prosecution. Mr Kelly represented both the defendants. After hearing evidence the magistrate convicted both the defendants, who were each fined £5, with court costs and solicitors fee.
