MANCHESTER UNITY
Good attendances continue at the meetings of Loyal Princess Mary* Lodge, at which visitors from sister lodges are usually present. A competition in the vicegrand’s section of the initiation ritual was held at a recent meeting. This was well contested, and was won by P.G. Sis. Niven, P.P.G.M. Bro. Russell being the adjudicator. This lodge is giving exemplary assistance to all lodges in the city and suburban area by providing entertainment in the form of short sketches and musical items.
Loyal Valley at its recent meeting entertained co-tenants of the hall at cards, interspersed with musical and elocutionary items by Sisters T. Riddell, A. Hosiett, and E. Thomson, and Bros. Rosevear and Russell. When the sole surviving original member of the lodge, P.G. Bro. Fred Miller, reached his eightieth birthday recently a small party of members gathered at his home and wished him many happy returns, leaving behind a small token to commemorate the occasion. The meeting of Loyal Hand and Heart was adjourned early in the evening to enable the district executive to hold a past officers’ degree meeting. Prior to the adjournment it was announced that. P.G. Bro. Sam Thompson, a son of an old and respected brother, Peter Thompson, conveyed his regards to all. members and friends. He has for many years taken an active interest in lodge affairs in thg Auckland province. The degree meeting was conducted at first by Prov. C.S. Bro. A. Sligo, and later by P.P.G.M. Bro. Russell, with P.P.G.M.’s Geof. Clark, E. Longworth, and P.G. Bro. T. Henderson assisting. The examining officers were P.P.G.M. Bro. Lawry and P.G. Bro. W. Rosevear.
