ARRESTS IN INDIA

MEMBERS OF CONGRESS PARTY NEW DELHI, Aug. 9. Forty members of the Indian Congress Party were arrested on arrival at Poona from various parts of India with the declared intention of marching to the Aga Khan’s palace, where Mr Gandhi is detained. Others were arrested at nearby railway stations. Police vans constantly patrolled the streets of Poona and made further arrests. In Bombay a few minor demonstrations marked the anniversary of the arrest of Mr Gandhi and other Congress leaders. The police made 50 arrests to-day, and have also detained nearly 300 irt the past few days. The police at the week-end raided the north part of Bombay and seized explosive and incendiary bombs and chemicals. They made a number of arrests.
