FREE KINDERGARTENS
The monthly meeting of the Free Kindergarten Association was held on Thursday last in the Returned Services’ Association committee rooms. Those present were—Mrs A. N. Haggitt (in the chair), Lady Sidey, Mesdames R. A. Ewing, W. Brinsley, J. G. Dykes. G. Gallaway, H. A. Gamble, J. R. Glendining, G. Greig, E. R. Harty, R. Hudson, W. A. Jenkins, M. Myers, I. H. McAllum, J. H. McDougall, J. M. Paterson, S. G. Scoular, D. Smeaton, W. B. Taverner, W. A. Williamson, H. G. Woolman, and W. Wright. The principal, Miss A. J. Duthie, reported that the tests of senior students were now in progress. Applications had been received from girls wishing to follow the kindergarten training course. The directors' reports stated that the children had been taken on interesting excursions when weather conditions permitted. Attendances for the month had been largely affected by sickness. Miss Reilly, of the St. Kilda Kindergarten, wrote tendering her resignation as a director of the association, having received an appointment with the Child Welfare Department, Christchurch, and her resignation was accepted with regret. Notice was received from the town clerk stating that provision was being made for a pedestrian crossing at the Forbury Corner, intersection. Complaints had been received by the association of the danger to children at this point.
