OBITUARY

MR G. L. SCOTT Mr George Litson Scott, who di«d recently at Timaru, was well known in the boot trade. He joined the firm of Messrs Chisnall and Stewart (Cookham House), Christchurch, in 1894, and later was associated with Mr H. Islip in Dunedin and the D.I.C. in Wellington. He was for many years in business in Dunedin on his own account. His standing in the boot trade was recognised when he was appointed footwear judge at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Held at Dunedin in 1925-6 Mr Scott was also well known in rowing circles, having been a member of the Avon Rowing Club, Christchurch, since 1894, and a life member since 1904, He coached the New Zealand pair oar champions, A. C. Stiles and F. I-I, Thompson, before they competed in the Olympic Games at Los Angeles in 1932. He was a member of the Mornington Bowling Club, Kaituna Bowling Club, the Canterbury Bowling Club in Christchurch, and the Matamata Bowling Club in Matamata. He was also at various times a member of the vestry of St. Mary's Church, Mornington, and the Avonsidc Holy Trinity Church, Christchurch. He is survived by his widow and one daughter.

MR F. H. PERRY

Mr Frederick Herbert Perry, who died recently at Table Hill, South Otago, at the age of 81, arrived in Otago with his parents in 1874. The family resided in the goldfields for many years, and in 1891 Mr Perry acquired an interest in a silver mine at Mount Zeehan (Tasmania), but returned the following year to work a quartz mine at Oturehua (Central Otago), then known as Rough Ridge. He bought land in the district and farmed there for some years, later moving to Table Hill, and then to Fairfield. He later acquired a business in Dunedin, but owing to illhealth he retired to Table Hill. While at Oturehua, he was the first chairman and secretary of the School Committee. He had an extensive knowledge of mining and his advice was much sought after. Mr Perry leaves a wife and a son and daughter (Mr L. H. Perry, Table Hill, and Mrs J. H. Love, Alexandra).
