AIRFIELDS IN CHINA
ENLARGED BY JAPANESE CHUNGKING, Aug. 6. Apparently fearing air raids against Japan, the Japanese, says a Chinese military spokesman, are hurriedly enlarging their two main airfields in the Hupeh province for attacks against potential Allied bases in China. The Japanese are also reinforcing their air forces in China. At least 80 planes recently arrived on one airfield in the Anhwei province alone. Unusual Japanese naval activity off' the South China coast is reported. Enemy warships are patrolling, apparently attempting to tighten the blockade against China and to counter Allied submarine operations.
