METHODIST CHURCH
MEETING OF DISTRICT EXECUTIVE At the recent meeting of the OtagoSouthland Methodist District Executive, it was reported that Dunedin was to be visited in August by the Rev. John F. Goldie, the pioneer Christian missionary in the Western Solomon Islands. Mr Goldie first landed there in 1902, and until recently had his head station at Munda, on New Georgia. The district secretary for Overseas Missions gave details of arrangements that were being made for the holding of a public meeting in the Concert Chamber on Tuesday, August 24, at which Mr Goldie would be the speaker. On the previous Sunday, Mr Goldie will conduct services in local churches. Preliminary arrangements were made for the holding of the annual Dominion conference of the Methodist Church in Dunedin in February of next year, and subcommittees were set up to make the necessary arrangements. In connection with the Campaign for Christian Order the meeting of study groups in several suburbs was reported and the development of further groups was advocated. The support of the churches was pledged to the Religion and Life Week to be held in Dunedin early in October.
