BURDEN OF INCREASING COSTS (P A i AUCKLAND, July 12. The directors of the Auckland Gas Company have reluctantly decided to defer consideration of a dividend distribution until the end of the year, says a memorandum issued to the shareholders. Up to the present the company has been unsuccessful in obtaining any relief from the Government either by way of concession in taxation or authority to raise gas prices, or even to adjust the prices paid by certain consumers who to-day are paying less than the present cost of manufacture. " Our negotiations with the Government are still proceeding, and we are hopeful of obtaining some measure of assistance or authority to allow us to bring our prices into line with our increased working costs,” concludes the company. Poultry: Hens, 3s 3d to 4s 3d each; heavy breeds, 5s to 6s each; ducks, 3s bd to 4s 6d each; ducklings, 5s to 6s 6d each; goslings, 5s to 6s each; turkeys, to Is 2d per lb live weights. Potatoes: Graded lots at fixed values; ungraded nominally 7s 6d to 8s per cwt. Whole fowl wheat, 21s 6d to 24s per sack. Chaff: Prime oaten sheaf, £6 10s per ton, ex truck; £7 15s ex store, bags extra. Whole maize, 8s per bushel. Partridge peas, 10s bushel. Oyster grit, 6s 6d per 1001 b bag. Straw: Wheaten, 2s 9d per bale; oaten, 3s 3d per bale, ex store. Canterbury onions, 20s 9d per cwt. Oat dust, 5s 6d per sack. Lucerne meal, 12s 6d per sack. Ground oats, 17s per 2001 b for pigs and poultry. We stock meatmeal, oyster grit, barley dust (10s 6d 1501 b), crushed bones, buttermilk powder, etc. All eggs graded to regulation—payments weekly.
