SALE OF ARMY VEHICLES

Sir, —I see that the Government or the army is releasing motor vehicles for sale. These vehicles were taken from the owners at the Government’s price, based on the owner’s purchase price less depreciation and mileage, and not on the market value of the vehicle. If a vehicle had a sale price of, say, £250 on the open market and the Government valuation was £2OO the owner had to accept that price. A lot 1 was made of the clause that any objections would be decided by arbitration; but if the system is regarded as fair why not apply it to the sales now to be held? The prices at which the vehicles are offered would then be those paid to the owners when the vehicles were taken over, less depreciation and mileage. Or is tire Government out to make a profit out of the car owners' loss? I am, etc., One of Them.
