ITALIAN SHOT DEAD
ESCAPED FROM PRISON CAMP (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON. July 10. ‘ An Italian prisoner of war, Antonio Amedo. after killing a guard with a billhook, escaped from a Home Counties camp with the guard’s rifle and 10 rounds of ammunition. The Italian ran across a field, where he saw a girl working on a farm. He fired a shot at her, but missed. He then broke into a house and fired at two men, who returned the fire. They were both Home Guards, but not on duty at the time. Later Amedo was shot dead by another Home Guard.
