WINTER SHOW
ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME The Dunedin Winter Show, which, in spite of war conditions, promises. to be one of the most attractive organised by the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, will be officially opened at 2.30 p.m. on Friday by the Mayor, Mr A. H. Allen. Entries in the competitive classes total 2075, a much larger number than was expected, and compared with last year s figures there are increases in 10 of the 18 sections. In the sheep section there are 51 entries compared with 43 last year, and in the fat cattle classes some entries had to be excluded owing to the accommodation already being fully taxed. Competitors in the roots section have increased from 72 to 126, and in the potato section from 32 to 84. In addition there are 67 entries in the garden vegetable section, which is new to the Dunedin Show. There are 126 entries in the cheese classes, and the butter exhibits will include one from as far afield as South Westland. The sections for preserves, jams, honey, bread, photography, baking, and needlework have all attracted a large number of competitors. In addition to the competitive classes, there will be a number of displays and attractions whfch will have a universal appeal. The Fanciers’ Club Show will be held in the Fuller Hall, where dogs will be shown on Friday and Saturday, and cage birds on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The Horticultural Society's Chrysanthemum Show will be held in Brydone Hall. A particularly interesting exhibit will be a model of the Hawea-Cromwell area, showing the valley which it is proposed should, be irrigated. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Ladies’, the Kaikorai, and the Pipe Bands, and there will also be a merry-go-round and a sideshow alley.
