There was a full attendance at the meeting last week of the South Dunedin branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Mrs Williamson presided. The Rev. Mr Law gave a wider interpretation of the term temperance than usual, showing its bearing on all the gifts of God to man. Some would plead for the moderate use of alcoholic beverages, but this was vetoed, he said, by the delayed action of the liquor. , . ~ The North-East Valley branch of the W.C.T.U. met on Thursday afternoon, when the president., Mrs Green, was in the chair. Members expressed concern at the large sums of money spent on strong drink.
