(Special) ' CHRISTCHURCH, May 31. . S* Barr returned home this morning from the Dunedin meeting, and he will go north to-night to superintend the final work •of the steeplechaser Erination for the Auckland meeting on Saturday, and Monday. Edward was left at Wingatui, and his second in the Tahuna Steeplechase last Saturday makes him look a prospect for this week in similar company. Several Riccarton jockeys have arrived back from Wingatui, but they will g;. south.again this week for the second day. Among those to return was R. Register, who has been engaged to ride Benevolent, Nightcalm, and Frince Shad again next Saturday; " . ' Arrangements were made for Valantua to go to Auckland this week to run in the Great Northern Steeplechase on battlrday, but there was a change of plans after, the Otago Steeplechase, in which he did not race quite so well as was expected. He will again j be on hand at Wingatui on the second day Parchment, whose trip to Wingatui lasi week was cancelled, showed signs of leg trouble, and C. C. McCarthy eased him up rather than risk breaking the horse down He will be sent back to his owner in the North island. Dominate who also remained at home, has had • lot of racing lately, so a short rest was decided on. He will then be got ready to resume racing at the Grand National meeting In August.
