CLUB FOR SERVICEWOMEN

OFFICIALLY OPENED BY MAYOR Comprising an airy, pleasantly-fur-nished lounge, a well-equipped kitchen, and a small writing and rest room, the Women’s War Service Club, in Jamieson’s Building, Stuart street, was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) yesterday afternoon. The club, the first of its kind in Dunedin, is being conducted on similar lines to the Services’ Welcome Club which caters for men of the services, and it has actually been in use for about three weeks.

There was a large attendance at Jhe official opening yesterday, when Mr Allen explained the reason for the formation of the club. It was being run, he said, under the direction of the Mayoress, with Mrs Templeton at the head of a strong sub-committee. Two or three women’s organisations were assisting and had undertaken to dispense refreshments. The furnishings, floor coverings, a piano and radio, and the kitchen equipment had all been provided by the Patriotic Council. or had been given or lent by firms and individuals. The Mayor thanked those who had assisted in this way. The club will be open daily from 2 p.m. to 9.45 p.m„ and until 11 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.
