TRIBUTES TO FALLEN
POPPIES ON DESERT GRAVES (N.Z.E.F. Official War Correspondent)
NEAR ENFIDAVILLE, (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) Apl. 25. On each New Zealand grave beside the Enfidaville-Kairouan road, on the outskirts of the New Zealand unit area, there was placed on the morning of Anzac Day a simple but effective tribute—a large bunch of scarlet poppies gathered from nearby desert fields, which are ablaze with wild flowers. Further back, beside another of the roads which criss-cross the unfenced barley fields, a group of Tommies was seen placing similar soldiers’ wreaths upon’ two solitary New Zealand graves.
