WEDDINGS

The Trinity Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on April 20, when Mr J. Mills, now of Wellington, was married to Mavis, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Raper, of Dunedin. The Rev. Leslie B. Neale officiated. “During the ceremony Mr John T. Leech gave an impressive rendering of “ Because." The bride entered the church to the strains of the bridal march from " Lohengrin.” She wore a gown of ivory duchess satin designed in Victorian period fashion, the full skirt with bustle effect falling from a printed tight-fitting bodice which featured a yoke of tiny pleats extending across the bishop sleeves. On • her head she wore a heart-shaped Queen Anne ivory coronet edged with pearls, which held in place the billowy tulle veil. She carried a sheaf of Easter lilies. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs Hadden Lowrey, as matron of honour, and Miss Anne Young and Miss Isobel Pollock as bridesmaids. All three wore- picture frocks of whispering taffeta. The matron of honour chose coral pink, and the two bridesmaids wore apple green. Their dainty rucked bonnets to match and pink Victorian posies completed a charming ensemble. Mr John Lowrey was best man, and Mr Ray Raper, brother of the bride, and Mr Hadden Lowrey acted as ushers. A reception was held in the Somerset Lounge. Later the happy couple left for the south, the bride wearing a moss green Angora frock, matching hat, and fur jacket. They will reside in Wellington, where Mr Mills is employed in the Government Research Department on essential war work.

Her bouquet was of white lilies and carnations. The bride was attended by Miss Isobel Roy, who wore blue shot silk taffeta with shoulder veil and topknot of blue flowers. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr John Roy. Tire guests were received by Mrs Ockwell, assisted by Mrs Roy, at a reception held at the United Kingdom Hotel. For going away, the bride chose a grey coat and hat and navy accessories. She also wore a grey fur, the gift of the bridegroom. Their future home will be in Moonlight.
