Mrs E. F. D’Ath left yesterday to spend Easter at Mount Cook. Mrs T. Blues will leave to-morrow to visit her niece, Mrs H. H. Barrs, of Darfield. Miss Jopp, who has been visiting (her sister, Mrs Spencer Scoular, will return to-day to Wanaka. Mrs M. Richards, of Cromwell, who is at present in Dunedin, is staying at the City Hotel. Miss Gwendolyn R. Watson, L.T.C.L., has been appointed assistant music mistress at the Girls' College, Wanganui. The Misses Lane have returned to Oamaru after paying a visit to Dunedin to attend the Dunedin Repertory Society’s production, “ Thunder Rock.” Miss T. O'Sullivan has been transferred from Timaru to take up the position of supervisor at the Dunedin Telephone Exchange. , On Tuesday last Mr and Mrs W. R. McKenzie entertained guests to dinner at the Savoy, and afterwards to a picture party to celebrate the coming of age of their youngest daughter, Jean. A further indication of how women are taking men’s places in war-time was given when, at the performance of Stainer's “ The Crucifixion ” at the United Congregational Church on Sunday evening the two solo parts, written for tenor and bass, were taken by Miss Ray Stubbs, soprano, and Miss Alison Tyrie, contralto. Last year a similar expedient was adopted, and the solos were taken by Miss Stubbs ana Miss Joyce Ashton. A back-stage party was held on Saturday night, after the final performance of the Repertory Society’s production. “ Thunder Rock.” when Mrs R. Hudson congratulated the producer, cast, and stage and house assistants, on a highly successful season. Mrs Hudson also remarked on the unusual and attractive setting end frocking of the play, which, she said, had been specially suitable for repertory work. Visitors included the Misses Lane from Oamaru. The Waitaki High School Old Girls’ Association (Dunedin branch) held a pleasant evening in the Pioneer Women’s Rooms on Thursday last. Visitors were Mrs Moore (Auckland) and Mrs Paterson (Oamaru). as well as two new members— Privates A. McKenzie and Hayes. A “ war effort ” collection added the sum of £1 3s 8d to the fund. Those present were: Mesdames R. Duncan, B. Kirkland, McCallum, Raynbird, Rodger, G. Duff, H F. Sincock, Moore, W. E. Talt, Butterworth, Patterson, P. F. Harre, Misses M Pile, A. Mclnnes, B. B. Miller, K. Familton, M. Steven, Hayes, and A. McKenzie.
