IMPORT LICENSING
SEVENTH-PERIOD SCHEDULE AMENDMENTS The Comptroller of Customs has advised the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce of the following further amendments to the import licensing schedule for the seventh period:— Carpets, etc. (ex T.I. 159/1). —Additional licences for imports of carpets, etc., from the United Kingdom or British India during the seventh period may be granted to the extent of 50 per cent, of the amounts of licences granted for imports of similar goods from the United Kingdom during 1941. „ Pens * and Pencils (ex T.I. 305). —The seventh period allocStion for imports of pens- and pencils from the United Kingdom has been increased from 100 to 150 per cent, of the value of the applicants' imports of similar goods from all sources in 1938. Licences under the additional allocation will be available for imports from Canada. 1 Printed Books.—The instruction in paragraph 2 of circular memorandum, 1942/83 of October 22, 1942, in regard to the importation of printed books from Australia under licences granted for imports from the United Kingdom, is also to apply to school text books; religious, medical, and legal publications; music text books, etc. The above-mentioned instruction is modified accordingly. _ ■ Currants (ex Tariff item 36/1) and Raisins (Tariff item 36/2).— Seventh period licences may be granted for imports of currants and of raisins from Australia for amounts equivalent to the amounts of licences granted for Imports of similar goods from the same source in 1942 Watches (Tariff item 264).—Consideration will be given to applications from regular importers for licences, for amounts in excess of the normal allocation, in respect of watches of types suitable for the armed forces, provided that evidence as to the availability of the goods for export to New Zealand is produced.
