FOOD PRODUCTION

CANADA’S FINE RECORD NEW YORK, Apl. 18. Canada enters the forthcoming world food conference with an impressive record, says the Ottawa correspondent of the New York Times, who adds: “ Food production is one of the major accomplishments of the war. Canada possesses a wheat reserve of about 750,000,000 bushels, and in spite of the enormous strain of supplying Britain's needs, has increased livestock of every kind. One week’s shipments of bacon and pork products now equal a year’s exports a decade ago, “Canada has conserved her agricultural strength remarkably. For example, in 1942 65,000,000 dozen eggs were exported, yet the stock of hens has been increased. Farmers have cooperated whole-heartedly with Government schemes for raising new essential crops, such as oil-bearing seeds and coarse grains for cattle feeding, considerable quantities of which are being shipped to the United States.”
